Title and payee

The title is what you bought. The payee is who you paid. Rename either, on its own.

How to use it

  1. Step 1 of 5: Every entry has two names. The title is what you bought (“Idli”), and you can write anything. The payee is who you paid (“HungerBox”), and it sits under the title with where it came from, like “HungerBox · from a bank text”.
  2. Step 2 of 5: To rename a payee, tap the line under the title and choose Rename. This works on a logged entry and on a bank text still waiting in the inbox. Type the new name: your bank’s “Eatgood Technol” becomes “HungerBox”. Texts and statement rows from that payee, whichever way your bank writes its name, show the new name from now on, and so do your other entries with it. Titles never change.
  3. Step 3 of 5: To say this one entry was paid to someone else, tap the same line and pick Change payee: choose a payee Arc remembers, type a new one, or choose No payee. That changes this entry only.
  4. Step 4 of 5: Or rename from Settings › Arc AI › What Arc remembers: tap a payee, change its Name and save. It does the same as renaming from an entry.
  5. Step 5 of 5: When you give an entry a title that isn’t its payee’s name, Arc asks once: “Is “Idli” a new name for HungerBox?” or, for a person, “Call GAURAV MATHUR “Gaurav” from now on?” Yes renames the payee. No, it’s what I bought (or Just this once) keeps the title on that entry only. Either way Arc doesn’t ask about that payee again.

Good to know

  • A rename covers your own entries with that payee in the sheet. Entries other members logged are theirs to change, though they see the new name on the payee line, and every text from then on is read as the new name.
  • Forget on What Arc remembers drops the name you gave along with everything else Arc learned about the payee; entries keep the payee they have.
